Man arrested for allegedly making threats against Basildon church

A MAN has been arrested for allegedly ’making threats’ towards Swan Mead Christian Fellowship in Church Road, Basildon, said Essex Police.

The force said it was called shortly before 10.30am today.

A force spokesman said: "Armed police attended and the man was arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is currently on his way to custody at Basildon police station.

"The church is currently closed to the public while officers search the area.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

FULL POLICE STATEMENT:

Police were called to reports of a man making threats towards Swan Mead Christian Fellowship in Church Road, Basildon, shortly before 10.30am today, Wednesday, June 7.

Armed police attended and the man was arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is currently on his way to custody at Basildon police station.

The church is currently closed to the public while officers search the area.

Enquiries are ongoing.
