BASILDON Town manager, Marc Harrison, was thrilled to see his side reach the final of the ProKit UK Essex Olympian League Senior Cup following a thrilling penalties victory over Frenford Senior at the Basildon Sports & Social Club ground.

Tommy Barton and Grant Cumming scored for Town as the tie finished 2-2 after extra-time. However, Town held their nerve to win the resulting shoot-out 4-3.

Speaking to Yellow Sport after the match, the Town chief said: “I am absolutely ecstatic that we came through a difficult challenge to win the tie on penalties. Frenford gave a great account of themselves all over the pitch, we had to come from behind twice and grabbed a late equaliser.

“Penalties are an opportunity for someone to become a hero. The stage was set for our goalkeeper, Ant Hughes, who scored our fifth spot-kick before securing our win by saving Frenford’s last attempt, handing us a dramatic success.”

Harrison was also impressed by the size of the crowd at the New Towner’s home: “The attendance was 128. That’s superb for this level of football. We really appreciate that so many people are taking the time to come and support us”
